Virat Kohli Praises Ajinkya Rahane after Famous Win of Team India at the MCG

Ajinkya Rahane

Team India skipper Virat Kohli thanked Ajinkya Rahane & Co. for winning the second test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Leading the squad in the absence of Virat Kohli, Rahane led India to a dramatic eight-game victory over the hosts. Win implies that the four-game series is now all square at 1-1.

A good batting and bowling effort meant that India had to chase just 90 runs in its second inning. Visitors began the chase on a catastrophic note, as Mayank Agarwal (5) and Cheteshwar Pujara (3) left the squad at a low cost of 19 for 2. But then Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane made sure that Australia had no more cause to celebrate.

The pair played some fine offensive shots as they brought the attack to the opposition to ease the pressure on themselves. Rahane and Gill shared an undefeated stand of 51 runs with the former staying undefeated on the 27; while the debutant was undefeated on the 35 off just 36 balls.

Earlier in the day, India shook off hosts for just 200 after the day began on 133 for 6. Mohammed Siraj had been preferred by the bowlers, taking three wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja had picked two wickets each.

Message from Virat Kohli for teammates:

And soon after the game was over, Virat Kohli took Twitter to congratulate his teammates on the victory. The skipper is actually in India for the birth of his first child and he’s out of the series. Calling the commitment of his teammates ‘completely fantastic’ and praising Rahane, Virat Kohli wrote:

“What a win this is, absolutely amazing effort by the whole team. Couldn’t be happier for the boys and specially Jinks who led the team to victory amazingly. Onwards and upwards from here”
