India Includes Prithvi Shaw, Wriddhiman Saha, Umesh Yadav in its Playing XI for Adelaide Test

Indian Test Team

In the latest update, Team India led by Virat Kohli has announced its playing XI for the 1st test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] verified the same through a tweet on its official account. As predicted after the virtual press conference of Virat Kohli; where he had suggested that Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal would open the innings in the Test. The release of the official playing XI has confirmed the same.

Prithvi Shaw, who had scored a fifty against New Zealand in his last test innings for India, maintained his place despite being outscored by Shubman Gill in the two warm-up games. Kohli had dropped a subtle hint about the same in the virtual press-conference ahead of the first Test.

Virat Kohli stated on Wednesday, “Shubman has not gotten opportunities at this level yet in Test cricket; as and when he gets an opportunity; it would be interesting to see how he goes about things because he is a very confident young man. Prithvi has performed at the Test level but he would be playing in Australia for the first time. I think it is very exciting to see his progress as well.”

Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Hanuma Vihari take the middle-order

Cheteshwar Pujara, skipper Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Hanuma Vihari will take the 3, 4, 5 and 6 middle order positions. One other massive news is that Wriddhiman Saha has been selected as the first choice keeper over Rishabh Pant. Saha scored a game-saving 50 in the first warm-up game; but his place came under pressure after Pant scored a 73-ball 103 whirlwind in the next game.

This is the first time Pant has been sitting out of an overseas test since he made his debut against England in 2018.

As far as the bowling squad is concerned, the selectors have selected Ravichandran Ashwin as the lone spinner; while Umesh Yadav, who has impressed all in the first warm-up game. He will join Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in the pace department.
